We are currently seeking to hire a Chemical Process and Project Engineer for our manufacturing facility in Port Newark, NJ.
The Chemical Process Engineer provides technical support to the entire facility. This includes developing and executing projects involving improvements in safety, energy efficiency, increases in production capacity, improvements in product quality, design and installation of new equipment and maintaining and creating standard operating procedures. The position will also be a key team member of the owners project execution team, in some cases leading the implementation of smaller projects and for larger projects coordinating process design activities performed by engineering contractors.
1. Perform process studies to identify manufacturing and energy efficiency improvement opportunities
2. Present results to management both verbally and in written reports
3. Process Engineering
* Update and maintain documentation such as material balances, P and IDs and automation functional descriptions
* Process modeling studies utilizing tools such as ChemCAD
* Participating in development of project premises and detailed scopes
* Obtain and analyze operating data as needed
* Evaluate process data to identify improvement opportunities
* Preparing process datasheets for equipment and instrumentation
4. Safety, Health and Environmental Performance
* Demonstrate safety leadership in both day to day activities and by incorporation in process designs
* Gatekeeper for the process aspects of the Management of Change work process
* Educate and coaching of operations and maintenance personnel to facilitate understanding of new processes
* Lead or participate in safety reviews such as HAZOP and What:Ifs
* Assist the Safety and Environmental Manager as necessary by implementing environmental improvement initiatives
5. Additional responsibilities
* Provides oversight of contractor(s) process design performance
* Participate in preparation and submittal of regulatory permits
* Participate in planning for commissioning and start:up;
* Member of start:up team consulting on process questions
* Maintaining full project chronology of process design revisions (including cause / effect data), for use in validating contract change orders or defending spurious claims
* Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering
* Minimum of 5:10 years of experience in process design assignments of increasing responsibility, complexity and scope in a process manufacturing environment
Large scale project experience
Food/Vegetable Oil industry experience preferred or experience in bio diesel/petro/chem
* Strong preference for plant based work environment
* Excellent understanding and ability fundamentals of heat transfer, fluid transport and reaction chemistry
* Demonstrated experience creating process data sheets for key equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels and filters
* Track record of successfully meeting schedule deadlines
* Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to work in the USA without the need for current or future work visa sponsorship
