Quality Control Chemist- Newark NJ 07105

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: The QC Chemist performs specific routine analyses of samples of raw materials, in process, and finished products according to established procedures, to determine conformance to defined specifications for a particular chemical or physical property. Prepare various reagents, standards and solutions. Performs a variety of tests to aid in maintenance and certification of test instruments and apparatus as well as ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

REPORTS TO: Manager, Quality Control

WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and S & T


SHIFT HOURS: 10:00 pm- 7:00 am and alternate weekends (one or two a month).


1. Performs various tests on raw materials, in process, and finished products in order to assure compliance with company and customer specifications.

2. Troubleshoot/test specific batches in order to assist in determining the root cause of off-spec product and make recommendations for ingredient adjustments in order to meet required specification.

3. Responsible for calibrating and testing various analytical instruments to ensure that test results are reliable.

4. Prepares appropriate documentation for test results so that trends can be identified and analyzed.

5. Collaborates with S & T to perform and establish specific quality standards and specifications for chemically or biologically modified products.

6. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.

7. May investigate customer complaints and provide management with test results information.

8. Calibration, operation and results interpretation of HPLC, GC, FTIR. Perform wet chemical analysis and Titration, Percent of Non-Volatile Materials, Refractive Index, Karl Fisher Moisture, Viscosity as well as other miscellaneous test methods.

9. Performs special assignments upon request.

10. Must be available to work all shifts and weekends as required.


Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Biology or equivalent experience is required. Five years minimum of quality control experience within the chemical or allied industry is required. Must be an independent thinker capable of multi-tasking in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision. Experience with Empower chromatography software a plus.

1. Accurately tests various materials using appropriate test standards and methods.

2. Provides accurate results in a timely manner to support production.

3. Accurately calibrates instrumentation in order to secure accurate test results.

4. Ensures that accurate and appropriate documentation is prepared on a regular basis.

5. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
