Compensation & Benefits Manager -

The Director, Employee Benefits will manage the benefit plans of employees including Health, Welfare, Pension, 401(k), and Disability Administration. The role will ensure compliance with applicable laws and IRS codes, and develop and maintain benefit communications. The role:
  • Monitors and manages vendor performance and service.
  • Maintains plan documents, summary plan descriptions, employee communications.
  • Manages annual open enrollment.
  • Manages Production of Quarterly Pension Statements.
  • Ensures expenses remain within budget.
  • Ensures staff meets all regulatory requirements and comprehends and complies with best practices, professional standards, internal policies, and procedures. Including but not limited to:
    • 5500's
    • 401k Non-discrimination testing
    • Annual Funding Reports
    • Summary Annual Reports
  • Maintains effective internal controls over the processes and transactions under areas of responsibility including the completeness and accuracy of financial information and transactions, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and the effectiveness and efficiency of operations. Including but not limited to:
    • Internal Audits
    • External Audits
    • MARS compliance
  • Directs staff to ensure overall client satisfaction and appropriate level of service delivery
  • Develops and monitors goals for staff and provides ongoing feedback and coaching.
  • Conducts performance reviews on an annual basis and administers salaries for the staff.
  • Directs the employment activities of the office that include staffing, development, and training.

Education/Experience:
  • Requires Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources or Insurance. Graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10-15 years' experience with Health and Welfare, 401(k) and Pension administration and plan design, including 5 -7 years of managerial experience.
  • Prior experience administering Union plans and contracts a plus.

Additional licensing, certifications, registrations:
  • CEBS useful but not required

Knowledge:
  • Working knowledge of employee benefit plans, design, administration and compliance requirements

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to create structure and direction.
  • Excellent grammar and writing skills.
  • Proactive problem solving ability.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Client service orientation with ability to explain and/or write simple explanations to complex topics.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Travel (If Applicable):
  • Local Travel Minimally Required
